Diego's 1st Christmas

Here is Diego on Christmas eve, in his cute jammies I found last March, so glad I chose the right size and they look so cute on him!

On Christmas morning, Diego woke up at 6 am, which is pretty early for him and I would usually try to get him back to sleep, but Eddie and I were so excited for him to see his presents that we decided to just get up. I finally got a cute picture of him in front of the tree.

We were really lucky because he was generally disinterested in the tree the whole time it was in the house. He would stop by it a time or two and mess with the lights or the soft ornaments I purposely put on the bottom, but he mainly just crawled on by.

He wasn't super interested in opening presents after the first 1 or 2, and of course much more interested in the bows and wrapping paper than anything else!

A classic bow-on-head picture, love it!

Diego was absolutely spoiled for Christmas. He got all kinds of neat toys that light up and make noise, which he loves! He got a few books, some puzzles, a new red jacket and even his first savings bond!

Our favorite Christmas present (well, a few days after, on the 27th) was watching Diego stand up alone for the first time (for a significant period of time). He was drinking from his cup and stood there for a good 5 seconds or so. This is the best picture I could get of him standing. Later that day, Eddie and I were playing with him and I thought we should just go ahead and try to see if he might take a step or two. Eddie stood him up towards me and steadied him in a standing position and he totally took 2 or 3 steps and fell into me. Then, he did it again back to Daddy and again back to me! We were so excited and he was clapping right along with us! He did it again for Auntie Erica, Uncle Bryan, and Cousins Hank, Olivia and Jagger, but when he's done, he's done and he won't stand up anymore! I hope to catch some steps on video soon and some more of him standing, but so far I've just been selfishly enjoying it all myself without running for the camera. :)

Ten Months

Diego is 10 months today! He does more and more each day to make us laugh. He started doing this with his hands quite frequently, we're not sure where he picked it up, but its pretty funny. He will squish his cheeks together and make silly faces too.Diego is really enjoying exploring the house and Daddy and I are constantly following him around. He has moved from scooting to doing some real crawling and a modified crawl on the hard floors so only one knee supports his weight. He has also started pulling himself up to standing on some toys, his crib, the pack and play and most importantly, my legs! When he wants me to pick him up he just starts pulling himself up my leg, its pretty funny. A few days ago, he even crawled up on top of a Rubbermaid Tote I had in the kitchen. He was SO EXCITED! He is enjoying new foods and when he wants a bit he says "Mmm, mmm" which we just love. He loves raisins, cheerios, gerber puffs, cooked apple pieces, eggo waffles, mac n cheese, and english muffins, or whatever else we will give him a bit of~! I enjoy watching him improve his motor skills every day. He drops fewer and fewer of his finger foods each day and seems very proud of himself! He will also try to imitate sounds we make. Enjoying some story time with Daddy! Daddy read a book first, then Diego was looking at his.
Diego looks at his books so intently and turns the pages as best he can, almost like he's reading them. You can't tell in this picture, but the one he's looking at is upside down. :) I hope he continues to enjoy books as much as he does now. He will sit and just look at them for several minutes at a time.

Santa, Snow and the Christmas Tree

We've been livin' up Christmas style around our house lately! We've even got snow on the ground right now! Just in the last week we have taken Diego to get our Christmas tree (it was COLD and WINDY), Decorated the house for Christmas, took Diego to see Santa, and played in the snow!
I think this year we picked the best tree we ever have!
Diego wasn't too interested in Santa. He studied him for a minute when I set him on his lap, but then he was much more interested in finding his binky and putting it back in his mouth. I think he was afraid the big guy in red might steal it! I fully expected Diego to scream when I put him on Santa's lap, only because I remember sitting in Lancaster mall YEARS ago with my nephew Hank as a toddler and him freaking out when Santa walked up and said hello to him. I guess Diego will probably have his scared moment of Santa later.
I was so excited to see snow on the ground when we got up yesterday. Of course it was gone by 10 am, but around 4 o'clock it started coming down again and we got a good few inches. While it was still fresh we went outside so Diego could see it. He didn't even mind how cold it was! Thank goodness Aunt Tonia got him this snowsuit! When I set him down to take the pictures he tried to crawl away, but Chloe and I caught him!

9 Months Old.

Having a baby changes your life. More than anyone could ever describe to you and until you experience it for yourself you just don't know. My life now is so full. Full of love for my husband and child. Full of love for my family and friends. Full of laughs and smiles. Full of challenges and obstacles. But so full, that my heart just over flows every day with gratitude and thankfulness for all the wonderful things that having a baby has brought to my life.

9 months ago today, the NEW love of my life was born. I ask myself, could 9 months have really flown by already? Seems like just yesterday I was holding a tiny baby in my arms wondering why they let me bring him home from the hospital, because I just knew that somehow I was going to mess things up for him. And you know what? I'm sure I have, but we're learning together. Just now, after 9 months, I am starting to feel like maybe I can be a good Mom. I still spend a lot of time just looking at my sweet sweet child and knowing how miraculous it is to bring a child into the world. I am so blessed to be a stay home Mom, this is not something all Mother's can do and I do not take it for granted.

This last month has brought so many new things for us! Diego is on the move now, constantly. I know I said this last month too, but really there is just no stoppin' him now. He's even pulled himself to standing a few times. Eddie caught him the first time he did it in his crib, so I didn't get a picture of that. We of course then had to move the mattress to the bottom so he didn't fall out! The poor little guy has had some serious teething going on this month too. I even took him to the doctor because he was so upset 3 nights in a row in the middle of the night. The Dr says he's cutting 4 teeth on top, all at the same time. I feel so bad for him, but we've discovered that baby Motrin and Teething Tablets work really well. We got some new farm refrigerator magnets, and he will sit and play with them for about 2 mintues (or less) before he's off to explore something else! He loves to just sit and watch Chloe (our dog) eat her food, but I don't usually let him. He likes to pick up the little pieces and although right now he's not really into putting things like that in his mouth, you never know. And I really don't want him eating ABC (already been chewed) dog food! We've had lots of fun just staying around the house. Who knew sitting in a laundry basket could be so fun? Or "Helping" Daddy vaccuum? Or even laughing so hard he screamed while I was making my bed!!

First Haircut

I put this day off for as long as I could. People have started to wonder whether Diego is a girl or a boy, even whe he's in all blue, so I figured it was time for a haircut. It made me sad, because I feel like it was part of his sweet charm, but the poor little guy has had to push his hair out of his eyes all the time and I was starting to feel guilty for holding on to the hair. This is our "before" picture. Yes, I'm taking it of us in the mirror. See the one curl on the top? That's what we saved.

This is our "during" picture. He did amazing for an 8 month old baby. I love the expression on his face here!

And here he is in the "after" picture. He looks so cute! And now he looks more like a little boy, and less like a baby. Exactly what I was afraid of, but I have my pictures and a lock of his hair to remember and I have to keep telling myself that hair does grow back.

Halloween!

Diego was a Zebra for Halloween and he had a great time!

He didn't mind wearing his costume at all and did a great job posing for a ton of pictures. We went trick-or-treating with his Cousin Jagger, the Black Spiderman. Lucky for Jagger, everyone wanted to give Diego candy, so Jagger got extra!!My 17 year old nephew plays football and if you know me, you know I like to go to all the home games and this year I tried once and had to leave because Diego was upset. He had his last home game on Halloween night, so I thought we'd give it another shot. This time, Diego did pretty good and took a good snooze while I watched the game!

The Pumpkin Patch

Last Saturday, Diego and I met our friends Kari & Ava and Ashley & Jordan at the Pumpkin Patch! We had a great afternoon wandering through Bauman Farms and the babies had fun taking it all in. All three babies picked out a mini-gourd to carry around the farm and they loved it. They are even starting to interact with each other a little bit, which is so sweet. They weren't old enough for all the fun activities going on, but maybe next year!!

Jordan, Diego and Ava on a wooden swing!!

Ava grabbed Diego's hand, it was very cute!

This was my favorite picture of Diego from the day, he's getting so big, I can't believe it!

8 Months Old

Today, Diego is 8 months old! And folks, he's mobile!!!! Not quite a crawl, more of a scoot...but he is loving all the exploring he gets to do now. Its almost pointless to put a blanket on the floor, because he quickly escapes to look, touch, taste whatever he can find. Right now he stays in whatever room I'm in, but I'm sure that will soon change. I think he's close to pulling himself up on things too.He has quite a personality and loves to make noise. Whether its squealing, "talking" (he even says Mamamama, Dadadada pretty well!) or the occasional cry, he just loves to hear his voice. If he catches a glimpse of himself in a mirror on a toy or in the bathroom after bathtime, he giggles!

He plays really well by himself, as long as we are in sight. I'm amazed how long he will entertain himself these days! He loves to get out of the house, no matter where we go, I think he gets stir crazy if we stay home for too long.

I am so lucky to be home with Diego, I enjoy all my time with him!

1st Swimming Lesson

Today was our first Mommy and Me swimming lesson and we had a great time! Diego absolutely LOVES the water! We were both drenched from head to toe by the time we were done because he splashed so much! He's going to be a great swimmer. I decided for some weird reason to put mascara on before we left the house and that was a big mistake, it was runnign down my face! Our friends Leah and baby Cole and Ashley and baby Jordan are in our class too! Poor Cole cried every time Diego made noise, I guess he's just too loud for him. Leah and I are going to have to get together more often so he gets used to Diego's yelling! :) Here we are with our friends Ashley and Jordan waiting our turn for lessons!
Here is Leah and Cole, after he stopped crying because Diego scared him for about the 5th time! Here is my little water dog! He loved the water so much, he didn't even like sitting on the side, he wanted IN! See how wet his head is? I didn't dunk him, its all from his splashing and kicking!

Family Trip to the Park!

Yesterday, the three of us headed to Bush park to enjoy the last of the nice weather. I had been wanting to put Diego in one of the baby swings at the park to see if he would enjoy it. We had a great time! Our attempt at a family photo, we couldn't get Diego to look up, he was way too interested in the red swing!
Daddy gave Diego gentle pushes in the swing and he really had fun!
I took Diego down the slide, too! Daddy took our picture without any begging from Mommy!

Diego really enjoyed just looking around at the park. We walked, talked and just enjoyed each others company. We even saw a few Squirrels!

Seven Months Old

Seven Months! Wow! Diego is all smiles! He has 2 teeth now, so its been a rough month for the poor little guy. You can't tell by these fun pictures though! He learned to clap, which I have to say is just the cutest darn thing. Mom and Dad wore out the new trick within a few days though, so he won't do it as much for us right now.We walked the Race for the Cure this month and Diego had a great time! He slept for about 1/2 of it, but enjoyed looking around downtown Portland.
He's getting closer and closer to crawling and has decided he would rather be on the bare floor or carpet than on his blankies. I ran to the bathroom and this is what I came back to. He loves it!
Diego is such a joy to be around and we love to watch him learn and grow each day. His laugh and new sounds melt our hearts. A few nights ago, he woke up in the middle of the night and when I went to get him, his diaper had leaked, so I picked him up. He looked at me with a cute little smile and gently touched my face, what a precious moment for a Mama and baby. I can't say I don't wish he would sleep all night every night, but I still enjoy spending time with him in the quiet of the wee morning hours.

Vaseline Cures Cradle Cap: At a Price!

My child was blessed with a full head of hair. It's gorgeous chestnut brown and absolutely adorable. Its what most people notice first about him, next to his beautiful brown eyes.
A few months ago I noticed he had a mild case of cradle cap and contemplated what to do for him. At his four month check up, the doctor recommended using vaseline on his hair before a bath and then washing out to clear it up. Others suggested baby oil, and I also considered one of the many "Cradle Cap Shampoo"s out there. I wanted to see if it might clear up on its own, so I waited a little while before doing anything. One night before bath time, I decided to go ahead with the vaseline on his hair. The hair on top of his head, where the cradle cap was, is pretty long too, at least an inch and a half, so I knew it would be kind of a mess whatever I decided to do because it would take a lot to get the gooey stuff down to his scalp. So, a got a big blob of vaseline from the container and slathered it on his haid. Right away I was regretting this decision. First of all, it immediately made a huge mess of his hair, but I rubbed it in a little anyway and let it sit while he played in the tub. Then, I tried to wash it out. It wasn't coming out! I called Eddie into the bathroom to show him and do you know what he said? "Oh, I could have told you that would be a mess!" What? No help there! So I wash his hair a few more times and still the sticky mess won't come out. Diego didn't seem to mind the mess, so I just left it. The next morning I realized it was still there! So I layed him on the counter in the bathroom and proceeded to wash his hair about 10 more times and it improved, but it was still a greasy sticky mess. We had plans that day, so needless to say, I was freaking out! But, he was growing tired of me washing his hair pretty fast and I started to feel bad. So I went ahead and left it there and put a hat on his head. Later I even got in the tub with him, thinking if I submerged his haid in water it would help, but no.
We went to a birthday party and people kept asking if he was hot cause they thought he was sweating. I just sort of ignored them acting like it was fine. I finally went to the internet for help. Many websites suggested cornstarch to absorb the moisture of the vaseline, but I had none. Then I found a site that said to mix baking soda with baby shampoo, and I tried it. It helped, but it still took 5 more days for the vaseline to disappear. The good news: The cradle cap is gone!! The pictures in this post were taken 3 days after I put the vaseline in his hair!

** I can't figure out how to rotate this picture, does anyone know how?? HELP PLEASE!! **

My Sweet Sleeping Angel

After 6 months of not wanting to let go of Diego sleeping in my room and sometimes in bed with me, I finally tried putting him in his crib at night. The first two nights he woke up a few times and I of course brought him back into my room for the night. The third night, he slept all night! He has slept all night in his crib for 3 nights now! I am not holding my breath that it will continue, but the poor little guy needed his own space and his Mama just wasn't ready to not have him by her side. He has slept better, Eddie has slept better, but you know who is waking up every hour or two to check on the baby! We bought a video baby monitor, so mostly I just click the video on so I can see him, but I do sneak into his room a time or two during the night. Hopefully I will begin sleeping too, soon, but for now I'm just glad he is getting good sleep. I often find myself watching the monitor like its my favorite tv show!

He is definitely an active sleeper! He is in a different position every time I look at him. I always lay him in the same position and he usually ends up with his head towards the other end of the crib and on his stomach by the time he wakes up in the morning!
We usually put a baby gate up at our bedroom door at night, to keep the dog in, otherwise she is running around the house all night waking us up. I wish I would have remembered it was there when I jumped out of bed the other night when Diego started crying. Instead, I ran right into it! I knocked it out of the doorway and fell flat onto it, OUCH! But now, I can officially laugh about it, it truly is hilarious!!!

First Tooth!

This morning at 1 am Diego woke up, which isn't in itself totally unusual for him. But, usually he will either shuffle himself back to sleep or I will get him and put him back to sleep. Today was different. He just wouldn't go back to sleep. We walked, we bounced, we layed down together to snuggle...still very upset! I finally put my finger in his mouth and felt the reason for his cries...a tooth had popped through his gums. The bottom right one. My poor little guy was suffering. So, we had a little tylenol and a warm bottle and back to sleep he went. Here is my attempt at a picture of the pearly white popping through....you can't see it though...

Happy 1/2 Birthday Diego!

I can't believe how fast 6 months has flown by! I know, I say this every month when I post but seriously, half a year? Already? Our lives have completely changed with our new love, and for the better, I really can't imagine life without him now! Diego has brought so much joy and fulfillment to our lives!

His laugh is infectious, and so is his smile. I can't help but smile when he does!

Diego has learned many new things this month! He waves to us, almost every time we ask. He sits up fairly well on his own. He puts his knees up when he's on his tummy...we are in a world of trouble because soon he'll be mobile! Ahhh! He scoots around a bit, mostly in circles while on his tummy. He also makes an adorable kissy face and sound, and I will post a video of that soon so you can all see just how adorable it is! He plays really well by himself with toys on the floor or in his high chair while I make dinner. He is still enjoying cereal in the mornings, but we had to switch to oatmeal after a little tummy trouble with rice cereal. I won't go into details, but there was prune juice involved!!! We are looking forward to adding more variety to his diet shortly! He is also enjoying bathtime in the big tub now! He loves to splash around and play with his toys in the tub!
How can you not smile when you see this?

Diego loves to hang on the couch, and sleep there too!
We took a nice walk with our friends Ashley and baby Jordan this morning, she was nice enough to take a picture of Diego and I, which we have so few of!

Happy 1/2 Birthday my Sweet Boy!

5 Months Old

Big news at the Diaz household, little Diego Samuel is 5 months old! He is learning all sorts of new things. He rolls from his tummy to his back. He has discovered his feet, and absolutely loves to suck on his little toes...which by the way, is the cutest darn thing I've ever seen! He's drooling and knawing on things like crazy, so I'm pretty sure he is teething. Today, he sat up for a little bit on his own, holding himself up with his hands. He is scooting all over while on his tummy, and gets mad if he can't get where he wants to!
We started a little rice cereal earlier this week, and I think he might be catchin' on a little. He might have even swallowed a little bit of it today, our 4th try!!
We are enjoying every second with our little man!

First Trip!

Diego took his first trip last weekend! We went to my cousin Eden's wedding in Washington. I have to brag here...Diego is the BEST traveler. He was so good, the entire weekend. I couldn't have asked for anything better. We had a wonderful time. We went with my Mom, Sister, Niece and Nephews. The drive was great. We stopped along the way at an estate sale, and then at Ihop for breakfast...yum!
Getting ready to go!

My niece Olivia, isn't she sweet?

Diego with Aunt Erica and Cousin Jagger at Ihop. This was after Jagger ate the whole scoop of butter off his plate.... He had a tummy ache later, I wonder why?

My Mom and Olivia

Diego meeting cousin Eden for the first time!

The little boys, just waking up on Saturday morning!

Diego LOVED chillin' on a blanket at the reception. He didn't make a peep during the wedding ceremony!

He even napped on his blankie outside, TWICE during the reception...right through the noise and a live blues band!!!!!

Cant' wait to take him on another adventure!
